An original commission by Balletboyz and created by Russell Maliphant in 2002 when it received
its premiere at The Place, Torsion is an outstanding example of strength and balance work. A
game with gravity, the work exploits the seamless, intuitive partnership between the dancers on
stage. Torsion has been a signature duet for Balletboyz and here is reworked in stunning fashion
on the new company. Features lighting design by Michael Hulls and music by Richard English.
Balletboyz are thrilled to announce two brand new commissions for the debut season of this new company of dancers. As well as the breathtaking beauty of Torsion, one of the most acclaimed works in British contemporary dance, the programme will also feature specially created pieces by Freddie OpokuAddaie, Associate Artist at The Royal Opera House 2 and by Paul Roberts, one of the most sought after choreographers in the Commercial sector, with roots in the ballet and contemporary dance worlds. These pieces promise to be bold, entertaining and engaging and Balletboyz are excited to add these new works to their repertoire of more than 30 pieces, over 25 of which are commissions and include works from some of the finest choreographers of the 21st Century.
